Interiors | Michael Jackson's Neverland

I must admit I've been obsessing a bit over Michael Jackson over the past week - it started last weekend watching his old videos - and of course has been fed by non stop coverage of the event on CNN and other news sources.

While many seem interested in super personal details about Michael, I've been wondering about a few things that are a bit more general.

For one, Neverland Ranch, as shown above in this morning's tour on the Today Show, was really different than I expected it.  I've seen the overhead shots of the ferris wheel and little train set up but like most people, never the interiors.  No over the top architecture, just a very classic Tudor style sprawling home - designed by whom?  I haven't been able to find any details about the concept for the home - there is however a nifty map of the property that reminds (not surprisingly) of the map of Disneyland.

Another thing I've been wondering about - where did Michael learn to dance?  Watching the video from Don't Stop Till You Get Enough - released in 1979 is amusing.  MJ dances around well - but really not much better than something I could do - then just 3 years later, Billie Jean, Beat It and Thriller were released - all showcasing some pretty remarkable dance moves.  That's a fairly short amount of time to go from generic ha-ha dancing to introducing Moonwalking to the world.

Another - why did Michael never go into acting?  Now that I've seen the dramatic intros to Bad, Thriller, ect back to back, the guy was a pretty great actor.  He could done some really remarkable musicals that I'm fairly certain would have dazzled audiences around the world.

Ah well, I suppose a small amount of research would reveal the answers - but for now I'll just have to continue enjoying the videos - which BTW have all gotten millions and millions of views over the past few days - guess I'm not alone in my obsessing.

Beauty | SJP's Mole Removal Starts Trend

Sjp
**I wrote this last year when Sarah Jessica Parker removed her mole ~ I still think it's pretty clever so I thought I'd re-run it!**

Beauty marks, moles, spots ... whatever you want to call them.  As of today, they're out of style.

After centuries of basking gloriously on chins, cheeks, and peeking out next to eyes, their reign is over.  All it took was a snip, a bandage, about two weeks to heal, and hundreds of years of fashion history came crashing down.

When Sarah Jessica Parker  removed her mole recently, she defied Marie Antoinette and her heart shaped beauty marks.  The sexy conventions of Marilyn Monroe, who's beauty-mark was such a cause celeb and intricate part of her persona that nary a impersonator today would be caught dead without a well painted on spot.

Cindy Crawford's mole virtually had it's own entourage when she was actively modeling in the '90's.  Makeup artists took great pains to powder and accentuate it just right.  Press agents released statements about it - and women across the country painted copy cats on their cheeks to get the look.

But while Cindy Crawford's mole may be her trademark, Sarah Jessica apparently didn't feel as affectionately about the bump that's been gracing her chin all these years.  So off it went, like Marie Antoinette's head.  And since it's SJP's spot, we know millions of moles around the world are headed for the same fate.

The statement is clear - the mole is headed for extinction.  It's out of style, not fashionable.  If you have one, dump it off at your local dermie's office!  While you may still catch them in their native habitat for awhile longer, I fear for the safety of such well known marks such as those of Janet Jackson, Kim Cattrall, Julia Roberts, and Cindy Crawford. Moles  At least we have their photos for posterity.  Note:  Madonna's upper lip mole was removed quite a while ago.

Fashion | The September Issue Preview

Many in the fashion world have been waiting to see The September Issue with great anticipation - and if you're a fan of Vogue Magazine as I am, it really does look intriguing.  Notice that Anna Wintour does indeed grin a bit in these clips - which helps to re-brand the fashion icon as someone a bit more relatable than we've seen in the past.
